How do I join your group?
You are very welcome to
walk with us up to three times before deciding to join us and become a
member. To join us you must first join our parent organisation Ramblers.
Ramblers are Britain’s biggest walking charity and promote walking for
health and pleasure. They also campaign to protect the footpath network, to
increase access rights for walkers and to protect the countryside.
To
join Ramblers go to
www.ramblers.org.uk (it is important not to forget to nominate SABRE as
your chosen group or you could end up anywhere). There is no charge for each
walk; but our normal annual membership fee is £31.00 single and £41.00 joint
membership (2 adults at the same address); From time to time there are
special deals for new members. Contact
sabremembership@saww.org.uk
for details.
I have a dog, when I join can I bring him along?
Providing the walk leader is advised, you can bring him along. You must keep
him under your close control at all times and you take responsibility for
his behaviour. Walks where dogs are not allowed are usually marked “No dogs
please” on the programme.
How do I join my first walk?
Just come along and meet us at the start of one of our walks. If
you wish you could let us know when you are coming on one of your first
walks, so we can ask the walk leader to look out for you.
Can I bring a friend?
You are welcome to bring along non-member
friends or relations. The same rule applies to them – they can have up to
three introductory walks; but after that they must join Ramblers.
What do you do for lunch on an all day walk?
We
often stop for a pub lunch; but some members bring their own picnic to eat.
How can I get more information?
We are run by a
small enthusiastic committee, who are all Rambler volunteers. Our
chairman is Eric Holes, Helen Dyer is group secretary, Derek Bunn is
treasurer, Syd Mepham is membership secretary, Dave Lambert and Julie Holes
are general committee members and Nigel Woodhead co-ordinates between
SAWW and SABRE. Send an email to
sabremembership@SAWW.org.uk
for more information.
If I belong to another Ramblers group
can I transfer to SABRE?
Go to the Ramblers web site and find
“Register a change to my record”
http://www.ramblers.org.uk/membership/registerchng.
If you are a current SAWW member, go to the SAWW Members page where there
are is a quick transfer box in the bottom right hand corner. Note that the
short code for SABRE is SR51 and SAWW is SR40.
